Description
Faience Beads, T.53
Notes
Microexcavated from SU3624 along with all the bronze plaques (Delta2040) and bulla (Delta2039, Delta2042). They come from the region around the head, location was noted as part of a chart used by Sara and Anna in the lab as they microexcavated the pieces, showing location on the body. Likely formed part of a little necklace. Two complete blue faience circular beads were found, one decorated with white circles (see Gabii t.51 Δ2029; t.52 Δ2035 for discussion of Phoenician eye-beads), the other was heavily abraded. Diam. 7mm. Many fragments of beads, mostly blue faience, were also recovered but they could not be reconstructed into recognizable shapes. These are likely only a fraction of those originally deposited, and we can assume that this burial had a similar decorative scheme to Tomb 51 and Tomb 52, although with a different assortment of bead types, and perhaps placed around the head or neck.
