Micro-excavation confirmed that the amphora contained the skeletal remains of a human fetus.

Possibly funerary vessel? Requires micro-excavation to determine. No cut could be observed during excavation, so several depositional processes have been considered in relation to placement of vessel. 1) Cut for deposition of vessel was originally present, but has been lose via bioturbation and plow damage. 2) Original deliberate placement with vessel within cavity/void in underlying wall, and later truncation/plow disturbance perhaps shifting vessel from original location. This is thought to be the most likely interpretation. Vessel could have been placed while road wall was still in use. However, in view of its location on the top of the wall collapse, as the nature of the areas of collapse and rubble immediately below and surrounding the vessel, it is thought most likely that the vessel had been placed within a void or cavity within SU1031, and therefore dates to a period after the road wall had been abandoned.
