The shape of the cut, the presence of footholds and the two extensions on the top edge, as well as the uniform nature of the fill for a depth c.1.59m suggest that the SU is the cut of a well. Since one of the footholds along the N side cuts into the adjacent cut of the burial (SU 2086), it is likely that the well was cut after the rectangular cut containing the tufo sarcophagus.
