Unknown Date Unknown Author

This is the earliest preserved phase of the N-S road. It fills a cut in the layer of soil that sits on the bedrock (cut: SU 2138, soil: SU 2139 and SU 2136); only the western edge of the cut is visible, as the eastern retaining wall was not excavated (SU 2080). The bedrock, covered by SU 2139 and SU 2136, itself appears as if it may have been regularized to accommodate the road. The retaining walls (SU 2080, SU 2081, SU 2114) are associated only with the later phase(s) of the road (SU 2093), not this road surface.
