This is a layer of accumulation into which the foundation trenches for walls 2264 and 2288 were cut (these cuts were not visible and have not been documented). The relatively abundant pottery assemblage is early (Late Archaic/-700 to -500), providing a terminus post quem for the construction of the walls. The high frequency of pottery compared with the layers to the West and East can perhaps be explained by positing that this layer was incorporated in some sort of construction enclosed by walls 2264 and 2288 and associated with the basalt-paved road to the East (a sidewalk?) and was relatively protected from later disturbances.
