During post-excavation study, this feature was reinterpreted as a tentatively identified leveling fill for the construction of the floor surfaces in Space 1 during Phase 1B.

2011-07-25 Andrew Johnston

SU 2320 was a rather compact layer with a slight slope leading towards the south, which raised quite a few questions. First among them is its relationship with the structural features that surround it. It is difficult to say whether the layer predates or postdates the wall and flooring that act as its borders; however, this will hopefully be made clear with the continued excavation of the surfaces exposed beneath 2281. The compactness of the SU leads me to believe that it was an anthropic surface. While SU 2720 was abutted by the wall to the north (2239), it did not extend to wall 2240 to the south. The surface appears to extend further to the west, beneath the floor 2253.
