During post-excavation study, this feature was reinterpreted as a wall foundation beneath floor surface 2411, that runs to the south of the Phase 2 building. These wall foundations may belong to a building in the block to the south of Area C (Area I), but it is also possible that the leveling fills south of Space 1B-7 and the lack of east-west running walls delimiting the southern extent of the Phase 1B building argue for a Phase 1B building that continued south into the Area I block and was, perhaps, of greater dimensions in that direction than either its predecessor or successor buildings.
The SU is a block of tufo belonging to a wall that is not fully exposed, but is being recorded because the exposed block is degrading. At this point, prior to excavation it appears that this wall is related to walls 2501 and 2502 in the south of the area, and walls 2245 and 2256 that bound the courtyard. More excavation is clearly needed to clarify the situation.
