This layer contained a high quantity of burning material, and is probably related to the same destructive event that burned the wattle and daub (SUs 3519, 3520, 3521, and 3522). It is interesting that the eastern limit is vertical (in a north-south direction). This suggests that there was once a vertical structure along the eastern limit (now decayed or destroyed) that prevent this layer (or ones excavated previously), from sloping further to the east.
