A linear feature that runs W-E across the southern limit of Area D. It is truncated by a NW running linear feature (SU 3833), which suggests that SU 3840 belongs to a slightly earlier phase of the site. At any rate, both linear cuts may be associated with a third, SU 3642, that may have delimited the hut compound. The phasing at present is uncertain, but it seems that 3642 truncated the latest phase of the hut, while 3840 and 3842 were both truncated by the hut feature. All three linear features may have comprised walls that delimited the compound during different phases.
