Frequent clusters of pottery, tile and animal bones; all fragments large and relatively intact. The layer extends across an even quarter of the walled enclosure (2nd room from N) and occupies an area of decreased elevation. It is bounded in the north by the excavation limit created by teh later wall SU 4004 and bounded to the east by the excavation limit. Seems to be another layer of post-abandonment natural accumulation with a high concentration of pottery and especially tile. Underneath 4017, we found that layer 4018 extended throughout the area bounded by walls 4006, 4007 and the line of 4004. We also discovered that a depression with softer soil initially identified during the excavation of 4005 was the result of a well whose dip and cover slabs are underneath the unexcavated layers 4018 and below.
