After study this cut is likely part of a group of scattered cuts or depression in the bedrock that are tentatively interpreted as postholes in the Iron Age and Archaic phase of area A.
Semi-circular cut in the bedrock filled by natural deposit SU403. The diameter is similar to those documented in the bedrock on the E side of Area A in 2009. It seems possible that the cut was originally begun through earth and continued into the bedrock on the N side; the bedrock may also have been cut after this cut (the linear E-W cut SU411), but the chronology of the two cuts cannot be determined at this point. The relationship between this cut and the mushroom-shaped cut to the S (SU406) also cannot be determined.
