Although there is a relatively seamless transition between them, it was determined that slab pavements 5321 and 5786 should be differentiated from one another, since 5786 seems to be a later extension southward, across what seems previously to have been the line of the southern limit formed by ashlar block 5486 (and its hypothetical extension eastward). Significant in determining its posteriority in time was also the discovery that crushed stone floor 5660 continues under these slabs, a floor which seems to post-date the original phase of the complex. The removal of this 'ramp' from the original phase brings us back to the drawing board in many ways, and the nature of the monumental primary entrance from the Via Gabina must be rethought. More to follow.
