SU 5811 represents the remains of a counter surface. The placement and shape of the feature suggest a counter top for selling food, drink, or other goods. This is consistent with the finds in the room, like game pieces and coins. The shallowness of the related construction cut (5821) suggests that (a) the feature did not support great weight (as a wall), and (b) the counter extended further to the north, where it was cut by later action. The counter remains seem also to be associated with a heavily damaged vault feature to the east, which may have served as storage for shop goods and/or as shelf space.
