This cut - and the associated ceramic feature around the rim of the cut - seem to represent a well cut into the bedrock. Given the presence of what would seem to be a well built into slab floor 7067 also within Room 1 just to the west, this well - built in a different, and probably later, technique - either reflects the fact that the other well had gone out of use, or that there was demand enough for a second well in the same space. For the moment, it is unclear to precisely which phase this well would belong; an imperial phase associated with the construction of the concrete walls? Less likely is that it is associated with the latest phase of productive activity within Room 1, since the deposition of layer 7076 - and certainly 7104 - put the well out of use.
