Based on the pillar's size and construction technique (large tufo block), it is possible that it was originally contemporary with the early monumental ashlar wall in the east of Room 14, possibly serving to partially frame an intermediate space such as a corridor between the building and the open space in the west. Later the possible corridor might have ceased to function, and the room to the southeast was enclosed (by walls 7292, and then 7284). The fact that the tufo pillar is right at the intersection of two perpendicular walls indicates that the tufo pillar was later reused as the corner of Room 14.
