Because there has been some disturbance in the western half of Room H13 around this block, it is difficult to determine precisely its original function or to which other features or structures it may have related. But it seems, based on its irregular alignment, that it may have originally served simply as a foundation or support for the slab floor 7315 at this end, along the eastern edge of the open 'piazza'; perhaps such a foundation was necessary because there was also a portico running north-south along this line, as is visible in the large tufo bases to the north and south.
