SU12 may be a disturbance which occurred post-depositionally. This disturbance does not continue to the northern portion of the feature because the vertical tiles remain standing in situ. The filling of the disturbed portion (including SU11 & SU12) includes a mixed conglomerate of cobbles of tufo, mortar, and tile fragments. This disturbance may have been a looters' trench, and not a collapse. Had this been the result of a collapse, there should (in theory?) be no tile fragments above the mortar cobbles. The presence of a nail may be an indication of a post-depositional intrusion. Further analysis of the nail & other associated material could further refine the interpretation. The presence of the large, fairly complete pan tile at the bottom of SU12 with broken pan tile fragments beneath provides further evidence of a looted context. SU12 is the collapsed portion of the west end of the feature.
