Glariat road surface with many visible inclusions. Abuts E retaining walls in 2 places (4005 and 4023) and has been cut in 2 places (4030 and 4028). Probably post-abandonment agricultural pits. In line with other road surfaces in trench E and composed largely of compacted soil mixed with basalt and tufo cobbles. Its northernmost edge is cut by 4002 so its limits are largely not original. Seems to be cut also on E side S of retaining wall wall 4023, but nature of cut not yet clear. Surface of glariat heavily eroded, wheel ruts visible in surface as well as a large basalt stone with a square cut in the middle, perhaps a later feature? layer not excavated in 2011
