SU 5165 represents a large cut made after the abandonment of the staircase and associated monumental complex. Its purpose may have been to spoliate architectural elements, including those of the eastern staircase wall SU 5169, which is almost completely destroyed. The cut(and its associated fills) seems to have been cut for the construction of the concrete wall SU 5173, which must have been built much later and perhaps contra terra.
