SU5170 is a monumental staircase connecting two terraces possibly within a larger complex. The staircase is clearly contemporaneous with ashlar walls 5159 and 5006 (terrace wall) and smaller ashlar "bannisters" 5169 to the west and 5465 to the east, on the lower terrace. Furthermore, the staircase appears to be associated with column base 5174, which may have had a matching base to the west of the stairs marking the entrance to the upper terrace space. The stairs later fell out of use and a dump covered them, at least partially. Additionally, an opus reticulatum wall (5362 + 5173) was constructed directly on top of the southwest corner (covering the last 5 and part of the cm from the bottom).
