This rectangular cut may be associated in function with the later cuts SU510 and SU555 (with the latter of which it is aligned, though much shallower). If, however, SU510 and SU555 were some sort of drainage channel (cf. interpretations of these SUs), it is unlikely that this cut shared this function, given its north-south slope and abrupt termination at its south limit. That is to say that water would have no further route to drain from this cut.
After study, it appears that this was part of a network of drainage channels in the area.
