Floor composed of tufo slabs seems to have originally extended over the whole of room 19. It seems to have been part of the original ashlar phase of the complex. The surface of the slabs is quite fragmented and friable which suggests that they may have been exposed for a longer period of time in antiquity than other (better preserved) slab floors in this complex (eg. 5668 and 5550). For example, they seem to have been exposed during the construction/use of the circular fire feature SU 5720 in their NE corner.
