Due to the semetricality formed by this wall with the courtyard to the north the coursevof this wall appears to follow the alignment of an earlier ashlar wall (SU5886) of the first phase of the complex. Wall 5764 was construred to delimit room 20 after the ashlar wall had been robbed out, using the lower course of 5886 as a foundation.

2014-07-30 Andrew Johnston

Related to the other walls in petit appareil to the east that form the northern limit of the latest imperial phase of the southernmost part of the complex (esp. SU 5348). Because Room 20 and the western limit of the complex are incompletely explored, it is unclear why the changes in direction in the wall were necessary, and why it extends further north than wall 5348.
