SU 5823 was the threshold leading from the street into Room 22, which functioned as a shop or taberna. The finished floor surface of 5815 is flush with this threshold, indicating that they were planned or used concurrently. A post hole in the southwest corner of the threshold and ridge along the southern edge indicate that wooden doors were used to to close off the room from the street. A cut obscures our understanding of the eastern limits of the threshold - another block was probably present (as suggested by the fact that the recessed channel continues to the edge of the last block, and by the presence of a fragmentary block just west of 5693), and the counter feature (5811) probably extended over this further toward the street.
