This block was probably put in place during the same phase as the other ashlar blocks (SU 5825); they have the same height and the same finishing on their southern sides. The block was possibly used as part of the foundation for the portico that might have run between the road and the buildings. The presence of a similar block (directly south of SU 5827), which is connected to the pillar in front, adds to this interpretation. It is possible that the other ashlars, as well as the pillars, were contemporaneous.
