This feature is similar to SUs 5842 and 5843 in that it was probably constructed to support a bench or shelf that is not preserved. Unlike the other SUs, this feature's ashlar block(s) have collapsed out of the feature. During excavation, an ashlar block was found collapsed onto cut SU 5833 with dimensions that would fit into SU 5844, but cannot be determined to have come from 5844 for certain. The fact that this was built into ashlar wall 5845 suggests that it was built in a later phase.
