SU 5852 was likely a patch of mortar put down to regularize the floor after the removal of the ashlar blocks making up the west wall of the room. Similar patches can be seen on the crushed tufo floor surface to the south. Perhaps access was needed after the abandonment of the area to the north, for spoliation, creating building materials, dumping, or other activities in repurposed parts of the structure.
