This cut does not have a clear purpose, as the cut bottom has two distinct textures. One texture, closest to the southern limit, is most likely bedrock. The other, which starts about 1 meter from the southern limit and continues north to the northern limit, appears to be some type of floor/pavement preparation layer. This implies that the cut may be related to wall 5549 only in this southern section. It is possible that the floor surface preserved north of the northern limit extended to this point, creating an entryway from the road into the courtyard space, in axis with the nearby "impluvium" feature. This would, however, create quite a large entryway from the street.
