SU5873 is a layer of tufo rubble and soil deposited directly above bedrock in preparation for construction throughout the immediate vicinity. As wall 5886 was constructed on top of this layer and appears to belong to the Republican phase of Area F, the deposition of this rubble was likely part of the construction of the area F complex. This layer was intended to level the underlying bedrock and create a level platform for construction.
