This deposit is associated with the small linear features found throughout Areas G and H, which we are currently considering small plots for agriculture or viticulture. The deposit was very deep, over a meter, and had relatively little ceramic material. We came down quickly upon SU 6026 and continued to excavate around that. At the base of 6026 there appears to be a small section of a previous crushed red tufo floor surface with floor preparation underneath. The SU continued below this level before hitting a more compact surface as well as concrete coverings in under wall 6022 and foundation of wall 6023. It therefore appears that the deposit accumulated after the floor surface was removed.
