Appears to be dumping activity after the abandonment of rooms 4 and 5. Room H4 contained many sections of floor (some mosaic sections and others made of mortar with larger tesserae and irregular inclusions), perhaps the original floor of the room which had been robbed out. Layer ended in room H5 on a compact concrete and compact dirt surface approximately 30cm above the floor prep surface found in room H4.

Class Count Weight (kg) Details
Bone 1.66
Bronze 1 0.008
CBM 83.87 75.55 kg Tile weighed and dumped as of July 14 2017 10am, 8.32 kg dumped 07/17/17
Cocciopesto 18.46 Chunks of varying thickness
Iron 23 0.296 16 nails, 7 fragments
Lead 1 0.061
Marble 342 10.22 22 white, 2 pavonazetto, 1 serpentinite brecchia, 1 black slate, 2 giallo antico, 1 granite, 3 diaspro rosso, 1 carrara, 2 black/ white brecchia (Turkish), 1 red stone, 1 cottanello, 6 pavonazetto with orange/ yellow lines
Mosaic Tile 48.1 48.1kg total plus one large chunk which weighed too much for the scale to read. 2 large chunks, one of 30.8kg and the other of unknown weight, composed of small black and white tesserae, one of which abuts a portion of the opus scutulatum floor. This opus scutulatum looks different from the other chunks though as it is composed of larger rounded stones with little plaster/mortar in between. 4 smaller chunks of small back and white tesserae at 6.1kg total; likely same floor as the larger pieces. 2 pieces of larger black tesserae of 1.24kg total, possibly but not likely associated with the floor of smaller tesserae. Other pieces of mosaic added by Alison Ritterhaus, count and size of tesserae not recorded, but included in weight total. Processed by Siena Wood Hutton
Mosaic Tile 5.04 1 glass tesserae with the glass
Other Opus scutulatum floor sections photographed, weighed, and reburied. Three cassetta of floor samples (with thin layer of red plaster over the top) retained. Also includes one cassetta full of samples of photographed mosaic floor sections.
Other 219.72 Opus Scutulatum floor fragments, total weight of 219.72kg. 95 fragments of flooring of varying sizes and levels of preservation of the red plaster surface at 166.3kg and 5 edge pieces at 10.56kg. 14 fragments of the same Opus Scutulatum flooring which preserve the red plaster surface, at 26.46kg. 16.48kg of flooring added by Alison Ritterhaus, count and type not recorded, but weight included in total. The edges are of flat solid mortar, with no fragments of inclusions piercing through and no plaster surface. The surface appears to have been at one time covered in a layer of red paint, covering both the inclusions and the plaster in between. It has been rubbed off of most of the fragments, likely during the life of the floor due to wear. It is nearly fully preserved on several fragments though, some of which were kept as examples. It is unclear why these fragments still have the colour. It would seem logical that they would be the corner or edges of the floor, but none of the edge piece
Plaster 41.02 Uncounted. Includes several partially reconstructable wall schemes, including one with red/white/blue and birds; some vegetal fragments, orange and yellow, 17 fragments of painted ceiling plaster, as well as some mixed in samples of cocciopesto floor. For further study.
