Based on construction technique and stratigraphic relationships, this wall is likely one of the earlier bounding features of Room H15. Its alignment continues that of a similar ashlar wall north of plug 7321 (7078). The alignment of the wall seems to orient the placement of other features in Room H15 and Area H more broadly over a substantial time span. Given that this wall is built on top of the remains of a cruder ashlar wall in soft red tufo (7378) with the same orientation, one might infer that this wall reiterated and an earlier orientation of a previous ashlar phase or subphase.
