this cut is almost certainly ancient as it retains traces of an ancient fill below the back fill (now removed) deposited by the soprintendenza. because the cut has not yet been fully excavated, interpretation is somewhat limited. however, the presence of the slab floor 7320, which seems unlikely to have been cut in the formation process of 7380 (rather a modern cut into 7320 exposing 7380 seems more probable), may lead one to the conclusion that 7380 was at some point a cistern or well, possibly compare to features in room H1. one ought also to consider the function of the partial block courses 7397 and 7382 which 7380 appears to cut and the broader relationship among these features.
