SU 8229 appears to be a surface used to provide pedestrian access between the basalt curb 8231 and the building in area I, in particular the threshold at the entrance to Room I5. It may have been constructed at a relatively late date, as suggested by the irregular construction and the fact that the associated curb 8231 reuses spoliated basalt pavers. The various construction techniques seem to suggest either ad hoc construction or regular patching; if the latter, perhaps the surface was in use for a long period of time and/or saw intense usage. The floor appears better preserved directly in front of the threshold, but does extend further west. Additional excavation in 2018 should expose more of this surface and will perhaps clarify the situation.
