This is a possible floor prep. surface made of crushed yellow tufo (or some other light volcanic stone). Possible comparanda in Area D. Based on the differences between this layer and other layers around it, we are certain that this is an intentional deposition. The poor preservation toward the south may be the result of over-excavation of 2258 or the construction of wall 2277. This floor surface must have been associated with walls 2260 & 2274 & 2276 and based on the way it extends into the space between walls 2260 & 2274. That space is a probable threshold.
