This layer was initially regarded as an ashy, black deposit immediately beneath black deposit 3057. Both were similar in extent, colour, composition and compaction-only 3077 had a greater concentration of ash. It is possible, then, that both SUs constitute the same event. The depth of this layer was greater than originally thought- it was much deeper as it went N->S and along wall 3030. Just N. of wall 303 there are two clusters of stone- those were document as inclusions within the SU, the consistency of the deposit and a distinct lack of charcoals and burned materials found in deposit suggest that nothing was buried in situ. Appears to have been spread.
