This black ashy layer was initially discovered by bulldozer just N. of wall 3030. There were very few charcoal inclusions. So few that the layer does not appear to have been burned in situ. Instead, it seems to have accumulated and spread throughout the area. An ashy deposit below this, however, may have been burned in situ. This black layer was also cut by a natural erosion layer (cut 3058) that spreads N-->S over wall 3030.
