After further study, this large layer appears to be part of a series of preparation and leveling fills for the construction of floor 427, part of the Area A building.
Large layer that probably comprises several SUs (eg, compact area to the south that was likely the remnant of layer SU444 above it). High fragmentation of the pottery suggests it is an accumulation/erosion layer. The removal of SU461 revealed bedrock beneath in 2 places, indicating that there is little soil coverage left. It is likely that, like elsewhere, the removal of the remaining soil will reveal rock-cut features. Due to difficulties in seeing features cut into the soil (that also cut into the rock beneath) the finds contained within SU461 might include those from the fills of cuts that could not be distinguished, indicating that the ceramic from SU461 might not be a good indicator of the date it was deposited.
