This SU, 5377, appears to represent the construction of a floor that corresponds to an earlier northern wall(as it extends to a rubble wall eature in the north and NOT to SU 5348 as the later floor, 5320, did and seems to relate to a later well feature in the tufo paving stones (5321). At its eastern limits it was later constructed in 3 layers in the southeast and in 2 in the northeast, compensating for the natural N-S downward slop (see sections in sketch). Bricks, marble fragments, basal slabs and mosaic fragments indicate the reuse of building materials in the construction of the floor. Perhaps the thickness of the preparation surface is related to a 'waterproofing' intention.
