The groove and mortar filled indentations suggest the presence of a shutter which is consistent with the interpretation of the late phase of this structure as a road-facing taberna. The basalt paver in the middle layer means this later phase post dates the abandonment of a road in the area. This suggests that the wall remained in use as the city changed because the tufo in the bottom layer of the wall appears to be in a phase with parts of the monumental structure that probably predates the road's abandonment.
