These four tufo blocks, su 5473, in conjunction with column base 5450, represent the earliest phase thus far excavated in the Area Urbana of F-South as they sit under the various floors and most significantly the tufo pavers SU 5321. The eastern side of the most southern block of the SU was cut to fit tightly around column base SU 5450 (which continues below the layer on which 5473 sit). A lip cut into ashlar blocks SU 5440 at the southern edge of room 9 may reflect a continuation of 5473 in the south and west that is no longer preserved, which would also then associate 5440 and ashlar wall 5439 with this early monumental phase (which may or may not be related to the complex to the north). At any rate, SU 5473 must have served as a pavement for a monumental space.
