These slabs, with their associated wellhead in the north, represent the floor surface of part of the room that formed the corridor linking the central courtyard to the landing of the staircase. It is likely that the slabs were bounded on the west by an ashlar wall, continuing the line of 5551, that has been robbed. Closely associated with the floor seems to be the structure represented by tufo blocks arranged in the intentional gap at the southeast (SUs 5774-7, 5787), of unknown purpose.
It was a floor with a wellhead and a robbery cut. The western limit most likely bordered a wall that was part of SU 5662. Wall 5302 was built on top of it.
