This block, along with crushed tufo floor 5753, is one of the few traces of the original phase that seem to be preserved in the far southwestern part of the middle terrace. It seems to represent the extreme western end of an E-W wall that would have run eastward from ashlar wall 5765. Thus a room seems to have been formed to the southwest with these two walls as the northern and western limits, respectively, and with SU 5753 as the floor surface. The rest of this wall appears to have been robbed, though a foundation course may survive at a lower depth, which has not yet been reached by excavation. The discovery of this new 'room' is an important addition to our knowledge of this part of the middle terrace, and further exploration in this area is necessary in 2015.
