SU 8273 is an ashlar wall in phase with floors 8265, 8214, and 8167 and precedes the Late Republican and Imperial phases distinguished by the opus reticulatum walls and wine production activities. The ashlar construction of the wall indicates this earlier construction as it is rare within the greater complex in East Area I; moreover, it is worth noting that ashlar blocks have also been found at the base of walls constructed in either the Late Republican or Early Imperial phases (see SU 8093). SU 8273 allows us to more confidently associate these other ashlars with the earlier, presumably Republican, phase.
