SU 8287 appears to represent a layer of post-abandonment wall collapse and occasional dumping activity, equivalent to rubble SU 8318 in rooms I-17 and I-20. In the northern section of the room, a signinum basin was located roughly 15-20cm below this layer; in the south, an underlying layer may be equivalent to SU 8287, but has some larger tufo blocks that may represent collapse of the partition wall dividing the room, so will be removed as a new SU. Notably, a 6th century coin of Justinian was found in this layer, suggesting a later date (or at least a longer period) for this post-abandonment process than that provided by the pottery.
