The SU is a fill of spoliation cuts SUs 2493 and 2499, likely related to the spoliation of a water feature of some form (possibly a cistern). Due to logistical and safety concerns (the cut and fill seems to continue underneath levels that have not been excavated, flaring out in a rough bell shape) the fill was not fully excavated at the end of the 2015 season. Excavations will resume when an appropriate level is reached in the other parts of the central courtyard. It is possible that, at one point, the basalt stones capped part of the water feature, but during excavation no regular deposition of stones was apparent or could be uncovered. The fill was significantly shallower along the W. edge of the area, suggesting that an alternative feature was spoliated here not related to the main "cistern." The fill was highly uniform and rather sterile of ceramic material.
