The cut was not excavated/exposed to its full depth in the 2012 season due to safety concerns regarding the stability of wall 5007. SU 5051 appears to be the construction cut into the bedrock for SU 5007, as the wall is located in it. The material in the fill SU 5050 is thought to be the original fill as the composition differs from the fill above(SU 5027/5028). In addition, the white chalk material found in SU 5050 does not appear in the area with the exception of (SU 5109) wall 5006, which may suggest that A) the fills are back part of the same deposit and B) walls 5006 and 5007, and by extension cuts 5117 and 5051 respectively, may possibly have been part of the same construction event.
