These slabs represent the continuation of the pavement of the large central courtyard of the middle terrace of the complex (SU 5410 east of the opus reticulatum wall). Here they form an northwestern 'ala', mirroring symmetrically the northeastern 'ala' across the central axis of the courtyard (Room 5), which was much more poorly preserved due to robbery activity (robbery cut SU 5420). Like Room 5, this ala opens to the north into a large room (Room 6/16) across threshold 5565/5566. The breakdown in symmetry at this point, however, is noteworthy: unlike the northeastern 'ala' (Room 5), which would have abutted to the east the eastern boundary wall of the complex, this ala opens to the west and south (through threshold 5768) onto the secondary courtyard.
