After further excavation of 8318, it became clear that this cut not only cut through 8318, but also into the next SU, 8365.
SU 8278 represents a late ditch dug through the post-abandonment collapse/dumping deposits. It is probably to be associated with agricultural activity anytime since the abandonment of the structure to more recent times, possibly for field drainage.
