The layer is composed of remains of topsoil. It covers most of the southern half of Area C (south of drainage channel), excluding the western most edge of Area C and the very top most part of the tufo walls in the east section. By peeling off a fairly thin layer across trench, the tops of walls on the western end were exposed, as well as removal of the last of the topsoil left by the digger. During post-excavation study, this feature was reinterpreted as an accumulation layer marking the abandonment of the area.
